Healing in Every Sense

I consider myself to be someone who wears her heart on her sleeve, and I often describe myself that way.  There are few things that I wont share with a willing listener, and sometimes I find myself getting lost in my passion, probably telling that poor listener a little more than he bargained for.  When it comes to my diet and lifestyle, I typically will not offer up my habits until I know the other person is on board, or if they ask and are genuinely interested.

With more people learning about my lifestyle, I often am asked, “How do you do it?” They say they could never give up dessert, and they would not be able to get through the day without an afternoon jolt of caffeine.  What I always say is that, anyone could do it, all you need is the right inspiration.

First a delicious coffee alternative…

For those of you who are not familiar with concussion, I am telling you now, there is no mainstream medical answer.  Some doctors reluctantly offer up Tylenol. (I recently heard of a doctor suggesting Mountain Dew for a patient, but that is a horror for another post.) But there is simply no well-documented drug or other means to heal a concussion.  This, for me, was a blessing masked as a frustrating reality.  It forced me to look outside of traditional medicine and discover other means.  I got massages and cranial sacral therapy, acupuncture, osteopathic manipulations, live-source supplements—the list goes on.  I decided I was going to do anything I could to recover, so I changed my diet, I changed my attitude, and I healed.  My inspiration came from a never-ending desire to be healthy.

As you think about your own goals in this life, whether it be fitness, career, a new hobby, a new certification, and so on, sit back and discover what motivates you.  What’s burning inside you that drives everything else you do?  Is it to feel 100% self-confident? To feel complete health? To live to see your grandchildren?  To be in a job that does not feel like one?  Every summer, I approached the training season with the goal in mind that I wanted to be the very best lacrosse player and athlete I could be.  I am still going after the athlete part.

Sit down and write your goals.  If you have the goal in mind, the means will present itself.

A goal I have for myself in 2012: take a dance lesson.

I can honestly say that each new method was a learning experience and a new way for me to discover how to help the next person I come across in a similar position.  Ultimately, when my head was taken out of the picture, my heart led me elsewhere.  Now, this is the career opportunity I want to pursue.  Holistic healing.
